The Signs of the Zodiac in German

The old pick-up line  Ã¢â‚¬Å"What’s your sign?† probably doesn’t work any better in German (Welches Sternzeichen sind Sie?) than it does in English. That shouldnt stop you from learning  to speak about the zodiac in German.   After studying this lesson, you’ll know the German for the twelve signs of the zodiac  as well as some basic horoscope vocabulary to help you in conversations. Its a rather short lesson and many of the words resemble their English counterparts, making them easier to commit to memory. Signs of the Zodiac (das Tierkreiszeichen) The German word for the astrological and astronomical zodiac,  der Tierkreis  (â€Å"animal circle†), tells you a lot. The German words for each sign of the zodiac (das Tierkreiszeichen) represent the animal or symbol of that sign. While the English sign of the bull is called Taurus, the German word is  der Stier, the bull itself. English uses Latin-based words like taurus (bull), but German sticks with the Germanic words (Stier,  related to steer). There are exceptions to this, however. In the cases of Aries, Cancer, and Capricorn, the literal translation from German to English is the actual sign, not the symbol that represents it.   Remember, too, that the names of the signs are also the names of constellations (Sternbilder, literally star picture) you can see in the night sky of the northern hemisphere. If you keep all this in mind, it will make learning the words much easier. Nun, welches Sternzeichen bist  du?  (Well, what sign are you?) English Deutsch Aries der Widder Taurus der Stier (the bull) Gemini die Zwillinge (the twins) Cancer der Krebs Leo der Lwe (the lion) Virgo die Jungfrau (the virgin) Libra die Waage (the scale) Scorpio der Skorpion (the scorpion) Sagittarius der Schtze (the shooter) Capricorn der Steinbock Aquarius der Wassermann (the waterman) Pisces die Fische (the fish) German Zodiac Vocabulary To get into deeper conversations about the zodiac, you will also need some German vocabulary beyond the signs. These are relatively easy to memorize because they often resemble their English translations. English Deutsch zodiac der Tierkreis sign of the zodiac das Tierkreiszeichendas Sternzeichen horoscope(s) das Horotskop(-e) constellation(s) der Sternbild(-er)die Konstellation(-en) astrology die Astrologie astronomy die Astronomie star(s) der Stern(-e) the four seasons die vier Jahreszeiten Whats your zodiac sign? The Origins Of Computer Science - 1131 Words

The origins of computers date back to the mid 1900s. During the creation, the binary code of zeros and ones was formulated as a basic foundation of what computers can run off of. This code was used to communicate to a computer and manipulate it to assess whatever tasks need to be dealt with. As more of these problems arose, the communication between computers and humans became more complicated. Computers began growing more in fame and need. Computer engineers were faced with a problem as to how to make the connection between man and machine less complicated, thus computer languages were formed. They created a higher level language system, one that was much easier for programmers to work with compared to the binary code . Through the years, these languages developed with the complexity of computers themselves. The world was beginning to see just how important computers were for everyday life, and the need for the people who work with them were equally as needed. To justify the argumen t of the computer science field increasing, we must first talk about the origin of computer science itself. Before the 1840’s, no one was thinking about programming or rather the concept of, â€Å"a program as a series of instructions controlling the operation of a general-purpose computer† (Haigh). However, according to Where Code Comes From: Architectures of Automatic Control from Babbage to Algol by Thomas Haigh and Mark Priestley, Charles Babbage was the first to really tackle this ‘programming’Show MoreRelatedDigital Forensics And The Constitution1499 Words   |  6 Pagesof forensic science to adapt in order to investigate cyber-crimes as well. Reforms in Tourism Industry Australia †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Reforms in Tourism Industry Australia. Answer: Introduction In Australia, tourism industry contributes a significant portion of national income. There are several sites that attar a large number of tourists every year. The tourism industry is growing at a rapid pace. The sector generates huge employment opportunities to Australian natives and helps to maintain a low unemployment rate. Therefore, apart from focusing on agriculture and core industrial sector Australian government focuses on tourism sector. Different facilities are provided to the tourists like easy navigation facilities, easy transportation and others. Recently, Australian government has launched a project named Content realignment project to make some further reforms in the tourism sector. Present assignment conducts an analysis on the related aspect of this as published on a daily newspaper in Australia. Essence of the Story The article is based on a major reform in Australian tourism industry. Content realignment project was initiated in May 2016. The focus of the project is to attract more tourists and boost up traffic in Australia by presenting improvised and some newly added holiday destination to tourists. Australia.com has teamed up with Fairfax Media and Storyation and this has increased visitors in Australian tourism by nearly 46% (Adnews.com.au, 2017). The site is now also claimed as recording highest number of unique visitors in Australia. In order to create immediate, easily accessible and experimental content Tourism Australia signed partnership with the two media site. The basis objective is to make the site diversified and not only being an education and industry hub. The project targets to help visitors to overcome obstacles to distance related issues and others. Through designing the site more information are made available on the site through displaying attractive pictures, maps and other high quality content. After the implementation of the project, new articles and videos are launched by Tourism Australia. In addition to attracting new pool of tourists, the project has generated benefit to tourism industry as suggested from a 350% rise in tourist operators. The site accounts more than 70% of direct or organic traffic (Chon, 2013). Economic theories and concept Travel and Tourism industry plays a significant role in international economy. The world economy now becomes increasingly integrated and this opens a new door for enhancing foreign exchange reserves. Relaying only on export for foreign reserves fail to meet foreign exchange demand (Baum, 2016). Additionally, export earnings are subjected to volatility with respect to volatility in global demand. Therefore, tourism industry provides an alternative avenue for generating revenues in foreign exchange markets. Anothereconomic implication of tourism industry reform is that it has potential for creating new employment opportunities. Approximately 4.5% of employment is contributed to by the tourism industry in Australia (Dwyer et al., 2017). Several other industries flourish with development of tourism industry. This is because of the strong and diversified linkage effect of the single industry. The sector constitutes a strong value chain with some allied sectors in the economy. The related industries to tourism are travel, construction industries, and hotel and restaurant industry. Hotel, restaurant and other facilities have a backward linkage with the industry. The industry has forward linkage with services like telecommunication, recreational services, hospitality industries and other personal, cultural and retail services (Kido-Cruz, Kido-Cruz Killough, 2016). Without these services, development of tourism industry is not possible. Growth in tourism industry fosterseconomic growth.Economic growth is defined as a steady rise in overall economic growth. It is the only factor that can ensure economic success in the long run (Fang, Ye Law, 2016). Economic growth results from improvement in macroeconomic indicators like Gross National Product (GNP), Net National Product (NNP) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Earnings from tourism industry increases both GNP and GDP. In Australia, tourism industry accounts 2.6%of nation GDP (Webster Ivanov, 2014). Economic growth from tourism industry directly affected poverty reduction. Tourism industry is a part of invisible trade that involves cross border trade of services. Earnings from foreign visitors go to the Visitor export account in Balance of Payment and hence improve BOP status of the nation. In the phase of economic development share of GDP originated from primary sector reduces while that of secondary and tertiary sector rises (Goodall Ashworth, 2013). Therefore, development of tourism industry is an indicator of overall economic development. Recommendation In view of economic benefits realized from tourism industry, Australian government should give more importance to this industry. Redesigning of the official website Australia.com though helps in development of the industry and attracts visitors but there are any more things that can be done in this field. Attractive trip planning should be offered with reasonable prices. Better quality hotels should be made affordable for general tourists. Different package planning should be offered to different groups of tourists. Promotion and marketing strategy of the industry should be given focus for further reform initiatives. Apart from business aspect, concept of sustainability should be taken into consideration. Business, government and tourism organization should concentrates on promotion of sustainability in the tourism industry. Increase in number of tourist arrivals should not be the only goal for a successful tourism industry. The evaluation should also consider benefits in terms of ec onomic and social impacts as well as environmental impacts. The tourists should be encouraged to consume locally developed goods so that it can help to flourish domestic industries. Conclusion The tourism industry in Australia is an important sector contributing growth and development of the economy. Depending on this industry, several other industries fasten the growth process. The decision of the Tourism Australia to sign partnership with Fairfax Media and Storyation has proved beneficial as shown by the increasing number of visitor. Tourism Australia has diversified national tourism industry and promoted the concerned sector with increasing publication of new articles and launching new videos. The industry results in considerable revenue earnings for the nation, helps in maintaining the unemployment low by providing job opportunities to a number of people directly to either tourism industry or its related sectors. Some policy recommendation for Australian government has made. Successful adaptation of these recommendation help Australia to develop a sustainable tourism industry. References Baum, T. (Ed.). Tom lancy Essay Example For Students

Tom ?lancy Essay Vampire, Vampire! The CIC talker said aboard Ticonderoga. We have numerous incoming missiles. Weapons free. 1 Tom Clancy, the best modern fiction writer, and probably, one of the all time best. Above was an excerpt from his second number one bestseller, Red Storm Rising. Tom Clancy is a civilian genius that knows more about top-secret weapons systems than the men who designed them. This makes for an explosive, could be real, story. It is because of his gripping story lines, and powerful descriptions of battle scenes that have drawn me, along with millions of other Americans to his master works of art. We will write a custom essay on Tom ?lancy specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Ironically Mr. Clancys dream of becoming a writer was not fulfilled until he wrote The Hunt For Red October in 1984. Until then, he was an insurance salesman whose previous stories had been turned down. That is another thing that I like about Mr. Clancy, he doesnt give up. Clancy once said, In America, there aint no excuses. You can go out and do anything you damn well please if you try hard enough. 2 Finally, this author, was the only one that didnt put me to sleep with a warm cup of milk. Thomas L. Clancy Jr. son of a mailman and department store credit employee, was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1947. He attended a local catholic parochial elementary and secondary school. Most of his friends were interested in sports, and following their favorite teams throughout the season, but Tom had more important things on his mind like guns, tanks, and planes. He went to Loyola College, a Jesuit college of liberal arts in Baltimore where he majored in English. While attending college he joined the ROTC in order to serve in Vietnam, but poor eyesight kept him from fulfilling his desire. The first short story he wrote was rejected by Analog Sci-Fi magazine, crushing another dream of having his name on a book. In 1973 he became an insurance agent, as he wasnt making any head way as a writer. Eventually he joined his wifes fathers insurance agency, and later bought it in 1980 for $125,000. It was an established business with around 1,000 clients. Tom was so effective, and the business so profitable, that he could accomplish all the work in the morning and have the rest of the day to devour all sorts of technical journals and papers. After his writing career took off in 1984, he eventually moved into a 400 acre estate on the Chesapeake Bay. He has two tennis courts, two basketball courts, and a full size football field complete with goal posts. There is a sign that warns of a tank crossing, then there is the tank, sitting on the lawn. That along with Freddie the family dog, and an automatic security gate provides a secure home. But if someone were to get past that they would be faced with Tom, and his arsenal, as he has his own gun range downstairs. 4 Tom Clancy has shown that though the use of hard work, even writhing books can be profitable.

Tips for Filling Out USCIS Forms

Tips for Filling Out USCIS Forms Let’s face it, even native-born American citizens don’t like filling out forms for the federal government. For an immigrant, the task can be daunting. Unfortunately, untold thousands of those are rejected or discarded because they were not filled out properly. Here are some simple tips to make sure the government accepts your form: Make sure you fill out the form legibly. If it’s messy or damaged and the government can’t read it, you’ll have not chance of getting what you want.Answer all questions truthfully and completely. It can be a serious offense to give the government incorrect information.Make sure the spelling is correct - especially with names. If you need help understanding the English, then get help. Generally, most applicants will not need to consult an immigration attorney to fill out a form. You can do it yourself! But if you have a complicated you, you may want to seek a lawyer’s advice. Follow the instructions carefully. If you need to send a fee with your document, make sure you send the right amount the right way.Don’t forget to sign your form. An unsigned form is a simple mistake that can delay your case for months. USCIS is constantly changing its forms, so it’s important you are sure you are filling out the right one. If you’re not sure, check it.

Lyrics essays

Lyrics essays Controversy in the content of todays lyrics is not a new issue. It has been debated on for quite some time. There are many different views on regulations and control over what an artist should or should not say. Targeting artists for the content of their work should not be a concern of the media. Each artist has the right to speak and record what he or she wants. Todays media has targeted artists saying that young children will be corrupted by hearing the words in some of the top songs that are played on MTV. One of the biggest controversies is over the artist Eminems lyrics. Eminems multi-platinum selling albums are said to promote homophobia and violence. It has been said that Eminems lyrics will brainwash the children that listen to his lyrics into becoming violent, gay bashing, rebels that carry guns and abuse women. Yes, some of Eminems lyrics can be extreme and questionable, but isnt it the parents responsibility to monitor what their children are watching and listening to. Many say that by playing artists like Eminems videos MTV is supporting violence against homosexuals and women. Somehow these people dont seem to realize that the videos played on MTV are the clean version of the songs. These videos are edited for the content. Parents should view the videos and listen to the records that their children are experiencing. Parents should also talk to their children about what is right and wrong. The question is always asked, How do children get these records with this content? The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) labels records with controversial or offensive content explicit. Stickers are placed on album covers with the words Parental Advisory, Explicit Content. The RIAA determines what albums should have the stickers placed on them. Nursing Care for Domestic Violence during Pregnancy Research Paper

Nursing Care for Domestic Violence during Pregnancy - Research Paper Example Introduction Domestic violence is an important social issue, but also plays a huge role in the health of the expectant mother and her child. There is a number of ways that nurses can assess and deal with domestic violence. A pregnant woman who has been victim of domestic violence needs to be treated with confidence, care, and confidentiality, particularly because domestic violence can have a number of unfortunate physical and mental effects on the victim. The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between domestic violence and pregnancy, and the impact that battering can have on the expectant mother, both physical and mental. It will also explore how the nurse should deal with cases of domestic violence, including the assessment and care of these women, as well as what to expect from physical and mental examination of these patients. A final section will cover how I, as a future nurse, plan to address the issue in a clinical setting taking into account all the informati on covered within this paper. Provide an Overview of Domestic Violence as it Relates to Pregnancy Estimating the number of women that are affected by violence during pregnancy is extremely difficult for a number of reasons, but estimates place it from anywhere between 0.9% and 20.1%. Statistics also suggest that it is most prevalent in women earning under $20,000 a year (Jasinski). The women who are most likely to experience this type of violence have a history of victimization, so taking a history of the patient may help to clarify whether domestic abuse has occurred. There are a huge number of problems which are associated with domestic violence and pregnancy, both for the mother and the unborn child. For the baby, these include premature birth, low birth weight and foetal trauma. These may be compounded by the effects on the mother, which may be psychological and cause maternal behaviour changes, or physical causing health changes (Jasinski). Nursing Care Considerations Related t o Domestic Violence Assessment Considering the important consequences of domestic violence for the mother and the baby, there has been some debate about whether healthcare professionals should screen for domestic violence as the norm (O’Reilly, Beale and Gillies). This is based on findings that areas in which screening is present have a higher identification rate, and therefore it could be possible to prevent some of the problems associated with domestic violence in pregnancy. It also suggests that a nurse should consider the possibility of domestic violence during pregnancy, as the health of the mother and the child are paramount to nursing care. Discuss the Impact of Battering to the Individual Client, Newborn and the Family The impact of battering varies from individual to individual, although there are almost certainly physical, psychological, or a mixture of both effects on the women involved. It also affects the new born and the family of the victim. The woman’s mental health is likely to be affected. She is likely to suffer from anxiety, depression and a number of other disorders (Nasreen, Kabir, Forsell and Edhborg). This can lead to problems for the child, as the woman may be unable to care for herself or the new born. If the violence is aimed towards the womb of the victim, then there may be direct damage to the baby or premature birth (Devries et al.). Low

Economic development Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

Economic development - Coursework Example This reading focuses on the economic development in Africa through agricultural activities. This considers the use of proven agricultural techniques in order to increase the yields for food security purposes. The common challenges faced by African farmers entail soil exhaustion, water insufficiency and distorted economics caused undeveloped infrastructures. This implies that the poor soil fertility hinders the growth of some crops. This is because the local farmers engage in over farming and insufficient crop rotation. The existence of poor infrastructures contributes to high production costs because the farmer cannot access fertilizers and other inputs. Similarly, constant water scarcity due to periodic drought spells also affect Africa’s agricultural sector. This reading discusses the population explosion in developing nations, regardless of the favorable conditions. The author explores the population growth rate of Kenya in which it emerges that adults are free to give birth to any number of children. The people do not care about the availability of health care facilities, food or other aspects. The population explosion concept threatens humanity due to scramble for space, resources and economic activities. The Maragoli documentary depicts the struggles of women across the world since they cannot control birth rates. The underlining aspect of the documentary is that, in reality, population increases, but the amenities remain the same. The focus of this reading is the developmental challenge of political and criminal violence. It tackles the negative influences of the two aspects, such as destruction of property, death, displacement of people and economic stagnation among others. For instance, children brought up in hostile environments suffer from malnourishments and illiteracy. The millennium development goal (MDG) project has been unable to achieve its objectives of uplifting the living standards in

China Currency Exchange Rate Essay Example for Free

China Currency Exchange Rate Essay The currency regime adopted by China is neither fixed nor flexible exchange rate system. China has announced in 2005 the â€Å"end of its firm peg against the dollar, instead allowing it to trade within a narrow band against a basket of currencies.† China regime is managed floating system where the currency increases very slowly year by year and the China government prevent the currency from changing quickly in the short term. The reason why Chinese government intervene in the currency market is to lower exchange rate to increase employment, maintain a fixed rate to maintain stability and improve their current account deficit. China government manage its currency rate by buying foreign currencies to increase supply of China currency, therefore lowering its currency value. They also lower the value of its currency by lowering their interest rates. In the case of China, it is very difficult and challenging for them to adopt the fixed exchange rate system due to their disadvantages. Firstly, China government must always adjust its interest rate so maintain the exchange rate. Changing the interest rate frequently will cause fluctuations in investments and growth and also stable employment. There is also a possibility that the export rate may be set at the wrong level. For example, if it was set at a higher level, this could affect China export competitiveness and their domestic market will suffer. Question 4b Though China has been heavily criticised by some foreign countries like USA for their practice, there are some advantages to managed flow system. Firstly, the managed flow system will ensure stability in China compared to floating. This is because if China suddenly appreciate their currency, their exports production will suffer and there will be lots of unemployment as a result. However there are disadvantages to managed floating system as well. People will try to challenge the earn funds from the currency as this system is very prone to speculative attack. Experiences have shown that speculative attacks could decrease the growth of a country’s gross domestic product by 6 percent or more.

NY Teaching Methods :: Essays Papers

NY Teaching Methods In recent years the National Science Education Standards ( National Research Council, 1996) have shifted from a traditional text book style of teaching to a more "hands-on" or otherwise known as constructivism. According to the standards, learning science is a process that students do, and not something that just happens to them. The standards are designed to outline what students need to know and understand in regards to science. The opportunity to learn science is given to all students. The interviews that we conducted both reflect two different teaching methods. Each teaching style is an example of how the standards are fulfilled in the class. In order to compare teaching styles we must first understand the differences between consturctivism and traditionalism teaching styles and what they each consist of. Constructivism is a theory about knowledge and learning which is drawn on results from current work in cognitive psychology. The focus is on structuring lessons around big ideas or primary concepts which include a broad range of activities that promote hands-on learning. For example, problem solving, concept development, and construction of learner generated solutions would all be considered key components of the constructivist teaching method. On the other hand, traditional teaching methods consist of teacher-talk and textbook derived lessons. The emphasis is on curriculum proficiency and either right or wrong answers. The interviews we did illustrate the difference between the two teaching methods. Our first interview was with Jodi Schwedes, a first grade teacher at Jamesville Elementary School. We first asked her what teaching methods she uses in her classroom. She said that she prefers using traditional methods of teaching. She believes young children need structure in order to be successful in the classroom. However, she also incorporates constructivism in her classroom by using cooperative learning. She finds that cooperative learning works best in small groups rather than large groups. This is because children learn more, understand, and pay more attention to the material being presented. We then asked her what teaching methods she thought did not work. She believes that there is no single teaching method that doesn’t work; or works best overall. She considers herself to be an instructor, educator, and facilitator in the classroom. She also feels that she can provide instruction in several different ways. On one hand she uses hands on learning to promote successful learning in mathematics, language, and science, yet she uses a more structured approach to other subjects.

Character Sketch of Caliban

Character sketch of Caliban The Oxford Dictionary of English defines the adjective servile as the quality of â€Å"having or showing an excessive willingness to please others†. This is a trait of character that is often desired in a slave. But is it a required trait for a good slave or are there other ways to make them bide your words? In the stage play â€Å"The Tempest† (1611) written by William Shakespeare we are presented with the character, Caliban. Caliban is a native ofa remote island, the power of which 12 years earlier was usurped by the magician Prospero.Prospero made Caliban his subordinate and additionally tried to civilize him. Caliban, however, violated Prosperds trust as he tried to commit rape upon Prosperds daughter, Miranda. Prospero and Miranda believe that they did Caliban a favour by teaching him their language and â€Å"civilizing† him. This belief is central in the discussion of imperialism and can be easily transferred to the English Empir e even though it took place around 200-300 years after the play was written. Caliban represents the opinions of the colonized people. His island has been taken over by a foreign power nd he feels impotent and in contrary to Prospero and Miranda he says that it hasn't done him any good to learn their language: miou taught me language; and my profit ont Is, I know how to curse. The red plague rid you For learning me your language† (II. 364-366) It seems as if Caliban has developed this hatred towards Miranda and Prospero over the last 12 years. As they have taught him more, he has become more aware that they were treating him badly. â€Å"When thou camest first, Thou strokdst me and mad'st much of me and then I loved thee† (11. 333-337).Caliban believes in the upernatural. He uses curses and mentions the god of his mother as a ruling power that is able to have influence. It is, however, not an almighty god, as Caliban mentions that Prospero is stronger that Setebos, the go d. Before Prospero and Miranda started teaching him their language his knowledge was limited. He says that they taught him â€Å"how to name the bigger light, and how the less†. Hence, he has not had a word to describe the sun and the moon before Prospero and Miranda came. The argument between the three of them is generally kept in a very cruel tone, which emphasizes

The 3-Step Change Management Process That Will Boost Your Career

The 3-Step Change Management Process That Will Boost Your Career Over the course of 40 years, Dr. John Kotter developed an 8-step change management process. Its scope is incredible. And its worked in organizations big and small for decades. Do you want to lead change in your team, your company, or even in your own life? If so, theres huge value there. As marketers, though, we can take a leaner approach and apply it even faster even by the time youre done reading this post. This post is for you if you want to: Lead lasting change in your marketing team, Transform the way you (and your team) work, And become more productive than ever. The 3-Step Change Management Process That Will Boost Your Career by @jordan_loftis via @The 3-Step Change Management Process That Will Boost Your Career You will learn three simple steps to leading (and sustaining) change. Create a sense of urgency. Take action and find quick wins. Go back through the loop to sustain momentum. As youll see, each step is directly driven by your teams goal. At , we talk a lot about goals why? Theyre incredibly important. In fact, our own research shows marketers who set goals are 429% more likely to be successful than those who dont. Im not talking about fluffy New Years resolutions, either. (^^^ After all, the University of Scranton found that 92% of people who make those resolutions dont hit them.) Instead, were tackling specific and challenging goals, which the classic study, Goal Setting And Task Performance, found was a linchpin of success. Specific means there is a number and a deadline on your calendar. Challenging means it will achieve significant growth in your team, organization, or personal career. For example, you may want to leverage this change management process to revolutionize the way your team works. Leverage this change management process to revolutionize the way your team works. The Specific And Challenging Goal To Fuel Your Change Management Process We work with thousands of marketers in over 100 countries. Our customers range from companies like Microsoft to agencies and lean marketing teams. One thing unites them all: they are done with the old, outmoded, crappy way marketing works. Theyre sick of endless spreadsheets Theyre over confusing email threads Theyve had it with single-function tools that werent built for marketers in the first place We call the old way of doing things  makeshift marketing. And it refers to mashing disconnected tools into one martech stack. And thousands of smart marketers are sick of letting it gobble up their budgets and productivity. While thousands have defeated this ugly beast its taken a dead-serious approach to do so. In this case, setting the specific and challenging goal of  transforming from the old way things worked, to the new way. You have to overcome the reality of change aversion. This is our natural inclination to resist change and even to reject a new solution as bad because its different. You have to fight this in your team - and even in yourself. Setting a specific and challenging goal is your first step. It might look something like this: We will refine all of our marketing processes for maximum efficiency by July 1, 2018. Your goal specifically outlines the change youre after AND puts a date on the calendar. This is the focusing force of your new change management process: Create a sense of urgency around accomplishing your goal. Enable action toward your goal by racking up quick wins. Sustain positive momentum even after your goal is accomplished. Step One: Create A Sense Of Urgency First up, lets talk urgency. Recently, I met with my boss, our head of demand generation. Id been working on a project with a pretty important goal. And while I was working hard, my progress didnt have quite the velocity we needed it to. So we had a frank conversation. He told me, Were accelerating the timeline. Were hitting your goal this week, not next month. Thats right my roadmap had a few weeks left to make the project successful. After this conversation, there was just five days! Thankfully, Nathan didnt simply dump an impossible deadline on my shoulders. He offered to go shoulder to shoulder and help accelerate growth. And in just five days, we accomplished what Id planned on achieving in weeks. How did we do this? Urgency. Urgency is a force or impulse that impels or constrains. And its a productive marketers secret weapon. It makes you focus, prioritize, and then act. Urgency makes you focus, prioritize, and then act.How To Create A Sense Of Urgency With Loss Aversion Now, what is your goal? There are many levers to pull to increase urgency in accomplishing it but the most powerful is loss aversion. Research has shown: For human beings â€Å"losses loom larger than gainsand the pain of losing is psychologically about twice as powerful as the pleasure of gaining. (Kahneman Tversky, 1979) If youve ever done any conversion copywriting, you understand this. People prefer to avoid loss rather than acquiring equivalent gains. For example, whats more compelling to you not losing $100 you have? or gaining $100 you dont have? Psychologically, we work harder to avoid loss than to make gains. This is the first lever you can pull to create a sense of urgency. Ask yourself: What will I lose if I dont meet [your goal] by [specific date]? The bigger the goal, the more you have to lose by not hitting it. As depressing as this may sound, its actually invigorating to see whats really at stake if you (and your team) do not change. Step Two: Enable Action With Minimum Viable Marketing (MVM) Next in our change management process, take action and get to quick wins with minimum viable marketing. It helps you quickly test ideas to learn what works - and what doesnt - before you heavily invest into marketing campaigns or projects destined for failure. In Garrett Moons new book,  10x Marketing Formula, he devotes an entire chapter to Minimum Viable Marketing (MVM). He explains: The MVM concept stems from the minimum viable product (MVP) methodology, which was popularized in the world of startups by Eric Ries in a book called The Lean Startup. At their essence, MVPs are a way of quickly validating business ideas by producing the minimum number of features to satisfy early customer or audience needs. The MVP process decreases risk by testing assumptions against reality. For our simple change management process, MVM is the perfect framework for action. First, because it enables you and your team to rack up quick wins that get fast results and build momentum. Second, because it actually allows you to decrease long-term risk by testing ideas in small before you roll them out in large. Heres an excellent example Garrett cites in  10x Marketing Formula: Use A Minimum Viable Project Mentality In 1981 American Airlines was in dire financial straits. They were low on cash and high on expenses. This is never a good place to be. To pull themselves from the money pit, they cooked up what seemed a clever, homerun of a marketing campaign. To get millions dripping into their coffers, they offered  unlimited first-class travel for life  for $250,000. To most of us, a quarter-million bucks sounds steep (and it’s roughly $600,000 in today’s dollars). However, to the consumers who spend as much time in the air as they do on the ground, this was an incredibly good deal. A  Los Angeles Times interview  recounts one of the frequent flyers who took advantage of this deal: â€Å"We thought originally it would be something that firms would buy for top employees,† said Bob Crandall, American’s chairman and chief executive from 1985 to 1998. â€Å"It soon became apparent that the public was smarter than we were.† The unlimited passes were bought mostly by wealthy individuals, including baseball Hall-of-Famer Willie Mays, America’s Cup skipper Dennis Conner and computer magnate Michael Dell. Mike Joyce of Chicago bought his in 1994 after winning a $4.25-million settlement after a car accident. In one 25-day span this year, Joyce flew round trip to London 16 times, flights that would retail for more than $125,000. He didn’t pay a dime. â€Å"I love Rome, I love Sydney, I love Athens,† Joyce said by phone from the Admirals Club at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. â€Å"I love Vegas and Frisco.† American Airlines soon went upside down on this big bet- and they still kept it going for nearly ten years! Oops. This historic marketing blunder is a good lesson for us 10x marketers. Because this story is far from an isolated incident. Here’s how it goes. A giant X-factor company puts loads of money into a big campaign. Problem is, this campaign does more harm than good. And whether money is lost from lack of sales, or poorly projected financial impact, the big bet goes belly up. So, test your assumptions by building in stages to learn as quickly as possible. Use MVM In 3 Steps With The Lean Feedback Loop This method of MVM capitalizes on what startups call a â€Å"lean feedback loop.† It works in three stages: Build it. What projects or ideas will do you believe will help you quickly reach your goal? What lean version of this idea can you launch to test it and get quick results? Measure it. Is the idea working? What key data points who if youre toward your goal, remaining stagnant, or even shrinking? Learn from it. Based on key metrics is the idea working, and therefore worth investing more time, energy, and resources into? By working the change management process in this way, youll notice you are concerned with learning as much as winning. Learning is winning. Lets look at some example projects Launching A Podcast With A Lean Loop Build: Smartphone recording of pilot podcast episode shared as a key blog post. Measure: Measure traffic, number of listens or downloads, and listen to comments. Learn: Will a podcast be a viable marketing channel between us and our target audience at this stage? Timeline: One week. Rebranding With A Lean Loop Build: Start with core positioning statements, value propositions, and key messaging. Measure: Present the messaging to sales and target customers on calls for one week to gauge resonance. Record all calls for the marketing team to review. Learn: If the messaging is clear and relevant, continue to the next stages. But repeat this process of testing each major element before investing further. Timeline: One week. Adopting New Marketing Strategy, Processes, Or Tools Build:  Get a free demo of the software with a real person. Ask questions specifically about how it would work for your team. Then,  hold a kickoff meeting with your team to introduce them to the new tool. Measure: Set benchmarks for success. What results are you working for? What numbers will tell you if your new tool is growing them? Learn: Look at the data and make the call. Does your team like the process? Has your tool made your life easier? Are you getting closer to your goals? Timeline: Two weeks. Step Three: Sustain The Momentum Of Your Change Management Process Now that youve gotten results, its time to sustain the momentum youve created. There are tons of amazing books to help you get better marketing results There are game-changing marketing strategies you can adopt There are clever ways to 10x your ROI in short order but the truth is, none of it matters if you dont maintain the results youre getting. This third step is the most important. Why? If you rest on yesterdays success, you will be tomorrows failure. Thankfully, this can be the easiest part of the process. To sustain momentum, propel your team back into the process of urgency and action.

Interracial Marriage essays

Interracial Marriage essays I had really never thought about it: What is America? Until this week I believed that America was a country (and a continent), but after reading Schlesingers piece I realized that it is not only that. Schlesinger believes that America has succeeded as a multicultural society, because: America gives ethnically diverse people reasons to see themselves as part of the same nation. After reading this quote I realized that America is no where near that. Internationally America as seen as a multi-ethnic country, but nationally it is not. Schlesinger, states for America was a multiethnic country from the start. What does from the start? mean. If you really go back to the real start, Native Americans were the start. Schlesinger is talking about the start he likes to believe in, he is referring to the start most white-Americans refer to. There is not one history book that refers to Native Americans as the founders of America. Native Americans lived in this country long before Europeans discovered. There is a part of Schlesinger piece that is true: The hostility of one tribe for another is among the most instinctive human reactions, when Europeans arrived on the U.S. they believed that Native Americans were dangerous, reason for why they decided to take their property, kill most of them, their culture, make them live in reservations, and lastly re-name the country as New England. How come this is not part of our history books? Schlesinger talks about U.S. history from the revolution on, he also mentions that America was successful is making a multiethnic society. How can anybody classify America as a successful multiethnic society, if since the beginning of times Americans decided to exclude the real Americans? What does being an American mean to Schlesinger? America is home to millions ...

Homework # 2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Homework # 2 - Essay Example There are several ways in which to impeach a witness at trial. Here, because the proceedings are criminal in nature, we would be dealing with the federal rules of evidence and also the federal rules of criminal procedure. Impeachment tools such as opinion, reputation and specific Instances (Fed. Ru. Evid. 608), is based upon opinion or reputation testimony. This type of evidence is only admissible after the character of the witness is attacked by evidence of any form. Here for example, since Ralph noted on his application that he never had an accident, his driving record could be introduced as evidence to impeach his testimony, the testimony being Ralph's application (which is considered to be a federal document because it is submitted to the port authority which is a government entity) and demonstrate that it was false, thus proving that Ralph has a propensity to lie. Furthermore, any witnesses on Ralph's behalf would be properly questioned in order to impeach Ralph's character for truthfulness as well. (Fed. Ru. Evid. 608). It is true that Ed Norton would testify that Ralph is a great guy and a terrific friend, but he has no business or employment relationship with Ralph. It should be noted that Ed as a character witness will be questioned about specific instances of conduct on part of the Ralph as the principal witness to test his knowledge on Ralph's character. Thus Ed may be questioned on whether Ralph ever told him about his high school suspension. It must be noted that any defense attorney worth their salt would immediately object to the question if at the time of Ralph's arrest, the high school suspension was over ten years old. This rule applies if more than ten years has elapsed since the later date between the following: (1) the date of the conviction and (2) release of the witness from the confinement imposed for that conviction . Here, it is true that Ralph was not convicted at the time his suspension for a crime related to it. One might first think that the suspension would not find its' way into trial however there are exceptions to this rule of evidence. Specific instances of misconduct that did not result in a conviction can be admitted for impeachment purposes if the scope of its admission is to demonstrate the witnesses character for truthfulness, in the discretion of the court the probative value of the question outweighs any prejudice to the defendant; the evidence is offered in good faith; the act has a direct bearing on the veracity of the witness with regards to the issues being litigated. It cannot be understated that extrinsic evidence of specific instances of prior bad acts is not permitted when their only relevance is to impeach the witnesses credibility. Thus, it appears that Ralph's high school suspension would be admitted at trial. It should be noted again that the trial court enjoys immense discretion so the ten year limitation may be construed by the court to apply to non convicted prior bad acts. For example, if Ralph is 25 at the time of trial, the suspension may be admitted, but if he is 35 at the time of trial, it most likely will not. Finally, we do not usually see this type of evidence offered unless the parties know each other. Fed. Ru. Evid 613, applies to the prior inconsistent statements of a witness. Here, Ralph is prepared to testify that he never said "That could just as easily have been your head." In examining a witness

Provide an account of a particular community group or community Issue Essay

Provide an account of a particular community group or community Issue using concepts drawn from sociology and social polict - Essay Example The Pennine Housing 2000 association is a statutory group that has been the social landlord in Calderdale since 2001; voted in by tenants to own and manage the Council's rented housing units, dealing with all aspects of the Council community and housing (Pennine Housing). The Pennine Housing staff is dedicated to ensuring a positive experience for their tenants, even when this means dealing with conflict between neighbours and complaints about certain tenants. This organisation is responsible for the assessment of community crime as well as the administration of justice for all parties involved. The Anti Social Behaviour Team was set up as a vital part of the Pennine Housing 2000 organisation specifically to deal with community disturbances that involved people whose actions can be classified as anti social; in other words, people who have trouble integrating into the community in a positive way. Anti social behaviour spans from disturbing neighbours with loud music to allowing your children to run around the community unsupervised; many different actions are covered under the umbrella of the Anti Social Behaviour Team. The Team vows firm action against any people who "choose to make their neighbours lives a misery" (Pennine Housing 2000 website). Social exclusio... This alienation can affect virtually all aspects of life, including income, employment, social standing and the availability of other opportunities (Pierson, 2002, 26). Although it is the aim of the Pennine Housing 2000 organisation to eliminate any kind of social exclusion from their jurisdiction, the stigma of Council housing perseveres and often leads to a feeling of national exclusion on the part of the tenants. The West Yorkshire Police Force is working together with Pennine Housing to address anti social behaviour and youth crimes; the Police Force recognises the fact that it cannot give the matter the full attention it requires due to other responsibilities; Pennine Housing is therefore essentially keeping track of anti social trends in troubled council neighbourhoods and is responsible for offering effective solutions to the crime problems in West Yorkshire. Due to Pennine Housing recommendations, the West Yorkshire Police are sending letters to the parents of children who engage in anti social activities, patrolling extra hours and arresting more youths for crimes that have been overlooked in the past (West Yorkshire Police online). Community Groups, Statutory Groups and Effects on Policing A Guardian article suggests that the key to defeating crime in certain neighbourhoods, such as Council housing estates, is to promote social cohesion (Reiner 2004). Social cohesion - what happens when a community is close, bonded and working together for common goals and a better future for subsequent generations (Barchas and Mendoza, 1984, pp.3-4) - is something that other Yorkshire groups are working towards as well as Pennine Housing. The Children and Young People's Partnership is dedicated to the prevention of anti social behaviour and crime in young

Identifying complication of drinking cinnamon to induce labor Essay - 1

Identifying complication of drinking cinnamon to induce labor - Essay Example Being a secondary data collection method, it will involve access to articles with related literature and also establishing a strong understanding of the relationship between the use of the cinnamon sticks and the success rate of child birth. Therefore, the major source of the information will be secondary references which will have a strong focus on the development of the literature. Secondary information sources make reference to articles, books, hospital maternal reports and any other related source of information. Matan, et al (2006) argues that cinnamon sticks can be quite risky for pregnant women who use them to induce labor because they create a situation of toxicity from accumulation. This is especially the case when it is used for an extended period without attaining the intended results which might lead to the women developing some serious health problems. These problems might lead to the baby also being put at risk (Shields, P. & Rangarjan, 2013). The risk occurs when high toxicity levels in the mother as a result of high consumption of cinnamon reaches the baby. From the study design, information is collected through a collection of methods which are all secondary sources. In essence, information is collected from as many secondary sources as possible so that what different authors think about the situation is shared. This is a situation, which has to be avoided at all costs, and it requires that expectant mothers desist from using large amounts of cinnamon sticks in trying to induce labor. This study is useful because it shows that despite the common assumption that the use of cinnamon induces labor, there are instances where it does not. An increase in the amount consumed will not therefore help in any way. In fact, it might make the mother to put her baby at risk as acknowledged. When such cases occur, very little that can be done to save it. However, this study fails to show for how long a mother can take cinnamon sticks before it

Reading Is Fundamental Essay Example for Free

Reading Is Fundamental Essay Reading is the foundation that a child’s ability to learn is built on. The fundamentals of all learning are based on reading. Research has proven time and time again that reading to your child, even as early as pregnancy and infancy, helps to spark their curiosity to learn to read. By reading aloud during pregnancy and infancy, the ground work is being laid in the development for a child’s love of reading (Promoting Literacy). To help children develop a love of reading start by having books all around. In the words of Dr. Seuss, â€Å"The more that your read, the more things you will know. The more you learn the more places you will go. † (Dr. Seuss). An early start with teaching the concept of page turning, observing pictures, and sequencing will feed little ones curiosity. You can further spark their imagination and creative thinking skills by sharing a picture book without words. Also, reading at bed time will also help small children learn that reading is a relaxing and comforting activity. As children get older we need to make sure we don’t always make reading feel as if it is a task, but rather enjoyable. The U. S. Department of Education found that, generally the more children read for fun the higher their reading scores are in school (U. S. Department of Education, 2007). The answer to how to help children develop a love of reading mainly lies in how we as adults encourage them. Most of a child’s early learning comes from copying what they see their parents do, so if children do not see their parents read then they are not going to be compelled to read themselves. There are so many ways we can nurture a love of reading with children that in turn will help them develop in so many different ways. We read for so many different reasons and it is important that we convey those differences to our children so they can maximize the benefits they get from their own reading. Without being surrounded by people who read then it will be difficult for a child to make that vital connection between reading and enjoyment, thus hindering the development of a love of reading. Children should know books are not just purely for pleasure, but can also be used for a source of information. Once able to read then a whole world of literature opens up and as long as people write and read what is written then books will continue to provide education, information, and pleasure for all who participate. Employees’ Issues in Hcl Axon Malaysia

ORGANIZATIONAL ISSUES AND PROBLEMS Peripherally, HCL AXON is an excellence organization with increasing sophistication of its information technologies and offer huge scope of business benefits. HCL’s engaging in information systems projects and timely subjects helps yielding substantial achievement and continue to be robust. However, HCL AXON’s branch in Malaysia, HCL AXON Malaysia is actually having a big trouble in human resource management. HCL AXON Malaysia today fall prey to the same basic problems that were apparent all over the years in the organization.Questions have to ask whether organization is learning. Questions must also be asked about the quality of training given to project managers, developers as well as the IT support engineer. The employees are bewildered in a suffocating quandary which consists of rigidity in the Human Resource department, negligence of employees’ welfare, and the lack of employee development. i. Rigidity in the Human Resource department The HR department shows negligence in updating its information system. For instance, the working contract between a computer technician, Morty with HCL AXON Malaysia is expired in February 2012.Without contract extension, he is still working in the organization and being paid his salary every month until today. In fact, this situation is insecure to Morty because no one guarantees the termination would not descend one day against him. Furthermore, there is another similar example. A former employee, Tom quitted his job from HCL AXON Malaysia in September 2012. However, he was still being paid his salary in the next two consecutive months. After being informed about this case, only the HR department rectified the system. These might caused by the lack of initiation in the HR department towards developing deep awareness for contracting, staffing and recruitment system. They keep running the existing system like doing a daily routine, paying the fixed amount of wages to empl oyees on the list without any updating. Subsequencely, the HR system is not developing in fully aligned system which includes aligning the organization’s policies and human systems i. e. staffing. ii. Slavery & Racism in America Through Time

SLAVERY & RACISM IN AMERICA THROUGH TIME Slavery & Racism In America Through Time AMENDMENT I – to the Bill of Rights, the right to be able to make your own choices about your life†¦ In so many words that is true. The first amendment speaks of freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of petition, but who did this pertain to? Not everyone was privileged to these rights, which is sad when in today’s society; we have so much to be thankful for. Our rights are being guarded, fought for by thousands of men and women in the Armed Forces day and night, and have been for years, but since 1865, the fight for equality did not exist. So today there is a spirit that America has, called Patriotism, which means something different now than it did before 1865. Today we have comfort and a reason to live here; a purpose. Coming into this world as a black, white, brown, green, or orange person, we all have a choice as to who we want to become, and how we want to call the shots, if we want to be lawyers, police officers, judges, waitresses, or run for the president of the United States. Did it ever occur to you, that before you and I and our grandparents were born, not any of this was an option? People had children for one reason; whites had children to raise and become the owners of their plantations depending on the sex of the child. If you were an African American slave, you were born an African American slave. No choices! We all have choices now. The mess it took to get America to where we are today is an amazing adventure that is going to be and adventure to write about. Before the reconstruction in 1865, African Americans were treated in ways depending on their masters. The authority the masters had over their slaves, made it easy for them to take advantage of the situation by beating them and being torn up by dogs, which is what one slave said that lived to tell her story during an interview by Ila B. Prine in a Federal Writing Project in 1937. Charity Andersen lived in Mobile Alabama, and was said to be 101 years old. Most of the former slaves during this project were close to a century old if not older. They speak of broken English, but not of a language of a country, but of illiteracy. The slaves were not given education rights, for hemselves or children. They were simply put on this earth to work for the white man. There were also the slaves who had a better way of life because their masters felt that mistreating their slaves would not make for a good investment for their future if needed to sell them later. The slaves would need to be healthy and hard working, well mannered, and trusted. To beat, and â€Å"feed them to the dogs†, as Cha rity well stated, would not promote more work out of the slaves either. In these interviews the slaves spoke of freedom after the emancipation as if they had never left. They were set free, but really, were they? They had choices to move on and make more of their lives, but most were oblivious to what was out there. They lived alone, never learned to read or write, but spoke of freedom as it being the best thing that ever happened. Would you agree? Abolishing slavery did not mean the white man accepted the black man into their world. This brought hatred, ugliness into society more than could be imagined. The anti-black riots began the summer of the Elections of 1866. Many were killed and injured. Still, African Americans did not give up fighting for equal rights from the beginning of the reconstruction. The Fourteenth Amendment was ratified which allowed African American’s that were born in America to be called U. S. citizens, but were limited to their constitutional rights. Although they kept getting beat down, they demanded the right to vote, and in 1870, finally, the fifteenth amendment was ratified and gave the right for black males to vote. (Davidson, 481) The fact that the black man was able to vote meant a lot, but what did that mean to to the rest of the African Americans? To the women? Women were still not considered equal to man. It was not until 50 years later until the nineteenth amendment granted women the right to vote. There were a lot of corks and screws loose in the consitution, and with each state having the ability to change within it’s own, made it difficult to play the equality game. No matter where you went Democratic parties were trying to wean out the rights for the African Americans. â€Å"Separate but Equal† was the new Democratic running slogan. Today this means nothing. Then it meant seperating the blacks and the whites as long as theywere treated equal. The fourteenth amendment was limited to protecting citizens civil rights by states not by individials. Segregation was legalized in 1896, but for example, Mississippi’s new state constitution required voters to pay a toll and required all voters to pass a literacy test. This eliminated a great majority of black voters. How is this not setting them up for failure? Entrapment at its best! Then by1908, campaigns that put a to limit voting has one in every southern state. The â€Å"color blind† constitution was a part of African American progress for the next 100 years, which will bring us past to our future amazing life as we are now! Not only giving African American men the right to vote, but women, made a big impact on the political society. This legitimized women’s participation in all area’s of society. For example, African Americans were still getting denied services in certain states that was kept underground for a period of time. Reporter Peter Buxton, a Public Health Investigator revealed that 399 African American men were infected with syphilis near Tuskegee, Alabama in 1932. They were being denied medical treatment so that effects of the disease could be studied. This subsequently ended in 1972. In 1997 President Clinton apologized to some of the American people by stating the some of the studies were not covert, and not only on African Americans. Basically spreading the wealth among the whites, burn victims etc. The families that were there were still unaware of what experiement they were getting into. (P*, 1994-1995) There was so much for the black man and woman to give up on. Since slavery the whit man has been trying to run the black man out of the country, out of the business world, out of the housing market, the crop market, the economy, away from voting; has that stopped him or her? What is next? The Klu Klux Klan has got to be the most dredged alligience that lynched African Americans and they grew all over the United States after World War I. The KKK Lynched over 70 African Americans, leaving 11 burned alive. The mid 50’s were times also when men were lynched for â€Å"imagined† crimes. Just for possible looking at someone. There is a story about a black man in North Carolina plowing a field. He was accused of looking at a white woman walking along side the field, when he was probably just looking at the cows butt. He was found guilt for â€Å"leering† at her. He was given a long prison sentence. The black men and women still stood for what they believed in. In 1955, Rosa Parks, well, she sat down for what she believed in. She was tired after a long day at work, and refused to give up her seat on a bus in Alabama, which disobeyed a law that required blacks to give up their seats to white people when buses were full. She was arrested, which caused a 381-day boycott, that resulted in the Supreme Court banning segregation on public transportation. Rosa Parks was a seamstress who helped spark the civil rights movement of the 1960’s. (America's Story) No matter what, African Amercians were pushing to be apart of American society, and EQUAL part of Amerian society. Because we are all Americans. By the early 1960’s, African Americans were moving to urban centers in the Northest, the Midwest and the Far West of the United States. Then by the 1970’s, the trend was known as the â€Å"Sun Belt† phenomenon. (Davidson, 831) The cities were declining, the whites were moving out and the blacks, and hispanics were moving in. There was so much in Americas society that the African American had to offer after we had moved in. In 1967, Thurgood Marshall was the first African American Supreme Court Justice. He spent many years on the National Association for Colored People, and argued that segregated schools for children was against consittutional rights. The Supreme Court agreed. We still had our bad times, 1968, Springfield riots, Martin Luther King assassination, the democratic convention in Chicago, ect. , but will it ever end? We have so much still to fight for and so does the black man. We finally have our first African American President of the United States of America. Does it end here? No! It will not! Because Barak Obama will not. This paper stands behind every black man amd woman and what they stand for. They should never give up for what they believe in. Have faith in our country and where you stand. To come as far as slavery, to be born and know you will be 4 years old and peeling potatoes barefoot and picking corn in the fields without meals for hours, sleeping on hardwood floors and calling that normal, then calling freedom, sitting in your living room afraid to walk outside and cross the street because you can not read the street signs. Their freedom was never given in every sense it could have been like we have it. References Lester, J.. (2009, September). Troubling White People. The Horn Book magazine, 85(5), 507-508. Free Essays on Dali Free Essays on Dali Dali was subject to environmental significant formative influences at an early age by his parents. They spoiled him to an extreme extent and it had a major effect on the shaping of his character. â€Å"His parents, perhaps blaming themselves to a certain extent for the death of their first child, were over-protective with the second and seem habitually to have given him his own way, encouraging a pattern that was to persist until his death.†(1994, p.53) Dali would throw tantrums until he got what he wanted. His parents would give in which encouraged him even more. This insolent behavior didn’t stop with his parents but was the same case with relatives and friends. â€Å"Christmas provided the perfect opportunity, too, for tantrums, and Anna Maria recalled that Salvador used to get so worked up on these visits that he never stopped crying and raging.†(1994, p.53) This constant attention, which Dali so desperately craved, was constant throughout his life. Dali was keen on achieving fame and was pushed by his success in his small art shows to the unfortunate death of his mother, which Dali took very hard. â€Å" The death of Salvador’s mother in February 1921 from cancer was, he wrote in the Secret Life, ‘the greatest blow I had experienced in my life’. The Everyday Blues

The Everyday Blues The Everyday Blues The Everyday Blues By Erin When I was a reporter for a small daily newspaper back in the late 90s, I had an editor whose biggest pet peeve was the misuse of the word everyday. His peeve has followed me into my professional life, and I cringe a little every time I see it being used improperly. Everyday, the single word, is an adjective describing something that happens daily (an everyday occurrence), or is common or usual. For example: Because I was going to be doing messy work, I wore my everyday clothes instead of my work clothes. Many people use the word everyday when they mean to use every day. When the two words are used separately, they are synonymous with each day. I eat peanut butter for lunch every day. Mistakes involving the use of the word everyday are common. Even famous musicians are guilty! Take Elvis Costello and his 1983 hit Everyday I Write the Bookits right there in the title: And Im giving you a longing look Everyday, everyday, everyday I write the book Of course, Mr. Costello meant to say Every day I write the book. But the mistake is forever immortalized. Going back a little further, we have the 1958 hit Everyday by Buddy Holly making the very same error: Everyday, its a gettin closer, Goin faster than a roller coaster, Love like yours will surely come my way As in the previous example, were talking about something thats happening each day, not describing something thats ordinary or common. When is it a-gettin closer? Every Day. Keep this difference in mind, and stop making this simple error an everyday occurrence! Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? For example, as the Kingsley Hills as a whole was being developed and promoted by State Tourist authority, the questionnaires along with a pamphlet about the Guest house, can be placed at their various offices and outlets with their permission. In addition, when Tourism related fairs are conducted, Ralph and Momo can open up outlets there, and distribute these questionnaires among the visitors. In all these places, they can appoint a person to supply these forms to the customers, requesting them to fill and give in-person or can ask them to post. Christianity as Mediated by America's Entertainment Culture & Justin Essay

Christianity as Mediated by America's Entertainment Culture & Justin Bieber - Essay Example Consequently, it is why celebrities are marketed and angled to entice a larger devotion, exploring more possible target consumers. A prime example of this scenario is Justin Bieber and how he projects his image as a devote Christian. He even inked a portrait of Jesus on his calf. In an article entitled â€Å"Are young, religious stars like Justin Bieber and Tim Tebow making Christianity cool?† (Foxnews.com, January 10, 2012), Jo Pizza also mentioned other stars such as Demi Lovatto and NFL player Tim Tebow credit and praise their religion for their success in . Whether it is a packaging and publicity stunt to showcase Bieber as a devoted Christian in order to further his career, it is important to scrutinize the effects that in entails to society, to popular culture and its followings, and also the impact towards the Christian religion or simply just to religion. It is also critical to note that while Bieber’s influence does not generally include the adult population, h e rather has a strong hold of fan base on the youth who calls themselves as â€Å"Beliebers†, wherein the influence and impression is more potent and lasting to society, notwithstanding the support that it garners from the religious sector. Thus, there is also a need to explore the link between how pop culture transcends from an idolizing and cult-like following into a significant religious influence. To understand better the American society and how religion is practiced, the media and its proponents must also be discussed. It is also important to delve and examine how religion evolved in the United States and outline how the secular theory has adopted through time through the aid of mass media and technology. Understanding how religion is now availed by the community through means of cable televisions and especially the internet will give better grasps as to how pop culture has found a way and rooted itself through the religious diversities of America. Celebrities are Sales men and Religion is a Product When someone is propelled into the spotlight, directly or indirectly, they sell something. Whether it is in the form of movies, appearances, albums, advertisements, and the like, celebrities are vessels to sell something. In fact, in today’s culture, the celebrities are even the product themselves.1 Compared to the previous decades, the consumers demand to know everything about their lives. Noteworthy is the emerging unprecedented growth of paparazzi and gossip chasers who literally stalk celebrities in chase of the latest piece of conversation or controversy that can be made. In this age of technology and media, the interesting is defined by what is visible. Following on that premise; the invisible is uninteresting, thus unpopular, and ultimately unsellable. Therefore, celebrities must constantly reinvent and find ways to be more and more noticeable to the public eye in order to be successful salesmen of their products. Religion is no different than any commodity. It is also a product that is like any other where it needs to be marketed and sold to the consumer.2 After all, one needs to be convinced of a product before one purchases it or (in this case) adheres to it. It is worth highlighting that in this modern age, forms of religion are being marketed and advertised through the media. Evidence of these are the television channels
